Mr. Arjun Bhattarai, born in 1977 in Ilam, Nepal, holds dual degrees in Rural Development from Tribhuvan University of Nepal and in Social Work – Comparative Perspective (MSW) from the University of Nord, Norway.
A distinguished leader in civil society and a sustainable development activist, Mr. Bhattarai has over two decades of experience at both national and international levels.
As the focal person of the Nepal SDGs Forum, Mr. Bhattarai is deeply committed to localizing and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). His leadership has been instrumental in the localization of SDGs in Nepal and in spearheading Nepal’s Voluntary National Review (VNR) processes in 2017 and 2020. He continues to lead the VNR 2024, representing Nepal’s diverse multi-stakeholder community as a member of the Government of Nepal’s VNR Task Force. He has been a key advocate for inclusivity, introducing Child-led, Youth-led, Women-led, and Disabled Community-led VNRs, and ensuring the representation of Leave No One Behind (LNOB) groups throughout the review process
